That’s partly because he has a better than average accent and mannerisms , as opposed to many Brit actors who overdo their R’s and Y’s , etc. when trying to do American.

It’s not just him though, there’s actually quite a few British actors that are thought to be American.

I will always remember him as Bertie Wooster in, Jeeves and Wooster.
